Miley Cyrus: ‘Faith Keeps Me Grounded’

Source: Fox News

At just 15, Miley Cyrus is a multi-millionaire mogul not just for her music but for her film, fashion and entrepreneurial endeavors; however, the pop princess has managed to stay sane (and sensible) amid her very adult-like life and credits Christianity for her good behavior.

“I think it’s my faith that keeps me grounded, especially because I’m a Christ follower for sure,” Cyrus told us. “Live like Christ and he’ll live in you, and that’s what I want to do.”

But even though our Hannah Montana previously told the press that she’s never really had a boyfriend, the young starlet seems very skilled at writing about relationships. (more…)

Leader of the Pack keeps faith in God

Source: Sharing The Victory

For more than 30 years, women’s basketball coaches have stood on the shoulders of Kay Yow. An undeniable legend in the sport, her bio reads like an excerpt from “College Basketball’s Most Desirable Accomplishments.” But when thumbing through the pages of that biography, note that Yow’s fiercest competitor hasn’t been on the court.

Three times the North Carolina State head coach has been diagnosed with breast cancer, most recently stage IV in November 2006. But likened to any other rival, she has shown up for cancer’s game, determined to fight.

STV’s Susie Magill: You have been through a lot these past two years with a cancer relapse and extensive chemotherapy. What has God taught you through this battle?

Kay Yow: He is definitely working on my character to a deeper degree. There is no question about that. You have a chance to become a stronger person—a more Christ-like person—while you are going through it. And on top of that, you turn around and you are being blessed in so many ways. (more…)

God at the goal posts

Source: Mail & Guardian

Do religion and sport mix? Some sports people evidently think so. Players who believe in God often show it openly — some saying a prayer on the field after scoring or missing a goal, others showing off T-shirts underneath their kit bearing religious messages.

Some believe that God, or spiritual forces, take sides in sporting contests. Former South African cricket captain Hansie Cronje used to hold prayer sessions for divine assistance with players before games. Evangelical Christian Jonty Rhodes once told Andrew Hudson, who was going through a lean spell with the bat: “Do your best and God will do the rest.”

Last year, AC Milan player Ricardo Izecson dos Santos Leite (26), commonly known as Kaka, fell on his knees in prayer while revealing the slogan “I belong to Jesus” on his shirting after helping his team beat Liverpool in the Champions League. It sparked some debate among football followers across the world. The question was whether football players should confront the public with their beliefs.

According to media reports, Kaka is a devout evangelical Christian who “got religion” at the age of 12. He suffered a career-threatening spine fracture, but remarkably made a full recovery. Attributing his healing to divine intervention, he has since paid a tithe of his income to his church. Kaka is a member of Atletas de Cristo (Athletes of Christ). (more…)

Packers’ ‘KGB’ shares faith at prayer event

Source: Milwaukee Journal Sentinel

A testimony of faith from Green Bay Packers defensive end Kabeer Gbaja-Biamila drew a standing ovation Thursday from 800 people at the annual Governor’s Prayer Breakfast at Milwaukee’s Italian Community Center.

Held in conjunction with the National Day of Prayer, this year’s event drew the largest crowd since the late Packers great Reggie White, an ordained preacher known as the “minister of defense,” spoke to 1,300 people at the 1993 breakfast, said John Fisco, event chairman and publisher of The Christian Courier newspaper.

Gbaja-Biamila, the son of Nigerian immigrants – a Christian mother and a Muslim father – amused the crowd with quips and moved it with candor as he described his family and faith journey.

Growing up, he struggled with name-calling on the streets of Los Angeles and with teachers in school who told him he wasn’t smart enough to make it. He wanted to be a plumber, like his father, but other doors opened to him as his football successes led him through high school and into college. (more…)
